Tornado leaves destruction in sudden attack on Kansas town

NOTE:When ever there is a Doppler indicated
tornado in your area you should be in the basement of your home. Even if a tornado
is not sighted, this Doppler indicated tornado warning could save your life. Don't
wait for local alarms to sound first, heed the warnings of the National Weather service.
Local alarms cannot be counted on every time. You must take your own life into your own
hands and not wait on others to save you. The National Weather Service does an
excellent job of warning you of the potential of a tornado touchdown as do local radio and
TV stations. When they advise you to take cover this is what you should be doing.
Please heed the National Weather Service warnings seriously, it may save your life.

tornado cut through this Kansas town Saturday night, killing at least one person and
injuring 26.

LP Storm (or LP Supercell) - Low-Precipitation storm (or Low-Precipitation
supercell). A supercell thunderstorm characterized by a relative lack of visible
precipitation. Visually similar to a classic supercell, except without the heavy
precipitation core (Fig. 5). LP storms often exhibit a striking visual appearance; the
main tower often is bell-shaped, with a corkscrew appearance suggesting rotation. They are
capable of producing tornadoes and very large hail. Radar identification often is
difficult relative to other types of supercells, so visual reports are very important. LP
storms almost always occur on or near the dry line, and thus are sometimes referred to as
dry line storms. |
