Tornadoes near
Roswell New Mexico April 8th, 2004
Tornado photos near Roswell were taken from about 5 miles away by Rick
Cardona. Chase 2004 is already heating up with the first US chase report
coming in from Roswell. Although chasing tornadoes is not something you would expect to be
doing near Roswell New Mexico, on Thursday April 8th it was the place to be for chasing 4
different tornadoes. People closer to it said it was on the ground at different
times during its life cycle. Reports have come in that at least one mobile home was
destroyed near Dexter from one of tornadoes that hit the area. The home owner reportedly
had taken shelter else where before the tornado had hit. This is great since more people
are killed in Mobile homes than in homes built on a strong foundation. Other reports state
that windows were knocked out of several cars by one of the four tornadoes that went
through the area on Thursday night. Thanks Rick Cardona for sharing your photos with
all of us.

The second tornado pictured below was on clearly on the ground.

I live in Roswell New Mexico by the city limts and I wanted to tell you that when the
storm had hit roswell on 4/8/04 I had seen a funnel cloud over a hill I didn't take any
pictures or anything because I was in my bus and I had told my friends but they did'nt
belive me so when I had got to my house my friend called me and said " there was a
tornado warning". So I told my dad and I ran to my grandmas cause we live in a
trailer and got in the closet and my dad came with his radio. While I was in the closet I
heard the emergency sirens started. It tured out that the tonadoes didnt go throu roswell
as expected they acually went south south north through alittle town called dexter and
